ABOUT US

South Shore Woodcarvings offers bird carvings by Kevin Dunn of Marshfield, Massachusetts.  Kevin Dunn has been carving birds for over fifty years and his birds have been sold in gift shops and galleries in Washington, D.C., Cambridge, Cohasset, Martha's Vineyard, as well as the Marshfied Fair, the South Shore Science Center Corn Festival, and the South Shore Audubon's Webster Farm Day

He has taught bird carving at the Scituate Art Association, Silver Lake Regional Adult Education, Marshfield H.S. Evening Education, and presently at the Marshfield Senior Center and the North River Arts Society.

He carves birds in two basic styles; Peeps and Tweets and Realistic.  Peeps and Tweets developed from the idea of producing a unique handcarved bird at a moderate price .  They are carved in eastern white pine with enough detail to capture the essence of the bird and painted with acrylics.  Realistic carvings are done in tupelo or basswood to hold detail, fully textured to show individual feathers, painted in numerous acrylic washes, and have individual bases, often including habitat.

In addition, this site offers the works of other South Shore carvers.  These include, but are not limited to, bird carvings.  You may find character carvings, animal carvings, wood spirits, stylized and abstract carvings, and who knows what else as long as it is handcarved in wood.
